Terminal Pacífico Sur Valparaíso (TPS) welcomed the maiden call of the container ship MSC Leila. The vessel that arrived at the Port of Valparaíso measures 335 meters in length.
Through a press release, TPS provided details of this milestone, stating that "its call will be conducted under a 'single call' modality, combining both the southbound and northbound routes of the service in a single operation, with import and export cargo."
Regarding the MSC Leila, it was specified that "its length is approximately equivalent to 3.2 soccer fields, and with a capacity of nearly 11,500 TEUs, it will perform about 3,000 movements during the five shifts it will remain in Valparaíso, considering loading and unloading operations."
Furthermore, it was reported that "it is equipped with a windbreaker on its bow, a curved metal structure that allows for more efficient navigation by reducing the effect of wind and, consequently, contributing to lower energy consumption. Additionally, it features dual-fuel propulsion: LNG and conventional energy."
"Built at New Times Shipbuilding shipyards in China, MSC Leila began operations in May 2025 and today integrates routes connecting South America and Europe, reinforcing the incorporation of vessels with greater capacity, efficiency, and technology into international maritime trade," the letter added.
In this regard, Agustina Rojas, TPS Terminal Manager, stated that "the arrival of latest-generation container ships, such as MSC Leila, and previously MSC Emilia and MSC Edna, which have similar capacity, always represents a challenge for our teams in terms of efficiency, safety, and collaboration. This is especially relevant when dealing with import and export cargo in the same call, as it implies coordinated work across all TPS areas and the various members of the logistics chain," the statement concluded.
