Maersk announced that, after evaluating the current operational issues at the container terminal in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, the Port Elizabeth call has been removed from the X4A (Asas) service.
According to the shipping company, this change will be implemented with immediate effect, and customers with affected bookings will be contacted directly to be informed about alternative routes.
The company explained that "in recent months, persistent bad weather and prolonged berthing delays have significantly impacted the service schedule. While we have made every effort to maintain the Port Elizabeth call by implementing additional operational buffers, these challenges continue to impact punctuality across the entire service.
"Instead of facing recurring last-minute omissions and the uncertainty they generate, this network adjustment allows us to provide greater punctuality across the entire service for your cargo," Maersk stated.
The company noted that to maintain the fluidity of shipments, export cargo from Port Elizabeth can be channeled through alternative services and transshipment solutions, depending on operational requirements and available capacity.
"Our commercial and customer service teams will work closely with you to identify available transport solutions based on your supply chain needs," the company indicated.
"We understand that network changes can cause inconvenience, and we sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding. This decision has been made with the long-term goal of improving service punctuality and consistency for all our customers," Maersk maintained.
