The Regional Presidential Delegate of Bio Bio, Julio Anativia, visited the Port of San Vicente, operated by San Vicente Terminal Internacional (SVTI). The opportunity allowed him to learn firsthand about its operation, logistical capabilities, and the challenges to continue strengthening the port development of the region.
The authority was received by the general manager of Puertos de Talcahuano, Cristian Wulf, and by the general manager of SVTI, Juan Pablo Santibáñez, who presented the terminal's operations and its contribution to the country's foreign trade.
During the tour, Anativia stated that "this is a strategic sector for Chile and the Bio Bio Region. It is a very important port for the south of the country. There are many works and many investments that can still be boosted by port activity, both in the port itself and in the associated infrastructure and logistics. Port activity generates direct employment and also opportunities in related activities, so promoting industrial and logistical development is an opportunity for us."
For his part, Cristian Wulf indicated that "there are important challenges from the point of view of how we can enhance the port environment, the arrival of the so-called last mile, and strategic projects, such as the extension of the Interport Route and the Northern Railway Access."
SVTI operates as a multipurpose terminal, mobilizing containers, general cargo, bulk, and strategic products for the economy of southern Chile, including forestry products, fish products, steel, and various raw materials.
The terminal has five berths totaling more than 1,000 linear meters, 40 hectares of surface area, nearly 60,000 m2 of warehouses, and significant capacity to handle refrigerated cargo and large vessels.
"The good performance of the terminal is reflected in the service we were able to show during this visit, and we want to continue projecting it into the future. Along with this, we are strengthening relations with authorities from Neuquén, Argentina, to advance a logistical route that allows for more efficient connection of these cargoes with Asian markets," said the general manager of the multipurpose terminal, Juan Pablo Santibáñez.
