Maersk is implementing the Heavy Load Surcharge (HWS) for 20' containers with gross weight exceeding 22 metric tons for the scope of North West India to Europe and Mediterranean effective price calculation date on 7th July 2026.
The New tariff levels are as follows:
| Origin | Destination | Effective Date | Equipment Size and Type | Rate | VGM Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| North West India | Europe | 7th Jul | 20DRY | 500 | > 22 MT |
| North West India | Mediterranean | 7th Jul | 20DRY | 500 | > 22 MT |
*North West India includes load ports Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Pipavav, and Hazira
The above rate is retrieved based on PCD*. PCD refers to the scheduled departure date of the first water leg at the time of booking confirmation for non-spot bookings.
*PCD = Price Calculation Date.
When Verified Gross Mass (VGM) exceeds the weight threshold, Heavy Load Surcharge will be triggered. The Verified Gross Mass (VGM) is the weight of the cargo including dunnage and bracing plus the tare weight of the container carrying this cargo.
Please note that this is applicable on contract bookings only.
We review all surcharges regularly and you can find all surcharge updates.
If you have any further questions, please contact your local Maersk representative. We appreciate your business and look forward to continuing working with you in the future.
