Bahri Orders Two Dual-Fuel LNG ConRo Vessels

Bahri has confirmed that China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu) will build two dual-fuel liquefied natural gas (LNG) ConRo vessels for the shipping company, with deliveries scheduled for 2029.

"The agreement includes options for two sister vessels. The firm order, valued at USD 202 million, had already been briefly mentioned in Bahri's Q3 2025 report, stating that the contract was signed in September 2025. However, the identity of the shipyard and the option for the two additional vessels have only now been disclosed," Alphaliner indicated.

"Details of the vessels remain scarce, although the design appears to be an evolution of Bahri's series of six 50,714 GT vessels, designed by Knud E. Hansen and built by HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard between 2013 and 2014. Compared to the original six vessels, the new ships will be larger and feature LNG propulsion," it added.

According to Bahri, the new design is based on accumulated experience with the current vessels, offering greater flexibility and cargo space, a superior volume for container stacking, and additional hoistable decks that will allow adjusting the proportion between cars and other types of rolling cargo.

The original six vessels measure 224.96 meters in length and 32.26 meters in beam, with a deadweight of 25,957 tons. In addition to the roll-on/roll-off garages with fixed and hoistable decks, they have space to accommodate 364 TEU in the forward hold. They are also equipped with two 120-ton cranes and an angled stern ramp that supports up to 250 tons.

"Bahri's order is noteworthy, as orders for ConRo vessels for major coastal or transoceanic routes have become scarce, given that most regular line operators have opted for pure container ships (fully cellular), with the Grimaldi Group and Bahri being the only exceptions," Alphaliner concluded.
