Two merchant vessels collided on 23 May in the port of Puerto Santo Tomás de Castilla, Guatemala. No injuries or pollution were reported.
The collision occurred between approximately 3:15 pm local time. The container vessel Seaboard Pride Pride, which was fully loaded, was manoeuvring in the access channel when it collided with the vessel Saturn, which was reportedly docked at the berth.
The Guatemalan Ministry of Defence issued a statement confirming the incident and stated that emergency procedures were immediately activated to keep the situation under control. The ministry also confirmed that the collision caused no operational disruptions or port shutdowns. The extent of the damage is yet not known.
An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the collision.
