Transap has formally launched a new dedicated and specialized rail service for the transport of eucalyptus pulp logs for CMPC, operating six trains per week. The forest cargo originates from the Rapaco area, municipality of La Unión (Los Ríos Region), and travels to the Santa Fe Plant in Nacimiento (Bio Bio Region), the largest industrial cellulose complex owned by the paper company in Chile.
According to the company, the launch of the route required establishing a readiness plan to meet the operational and safety demands of moving this type of input. Furthermore, the process involved multiple technical and human fronts, including adaptation and modification work on its freight cars, making them suitable for the dimensions, volume, and particular characteristics of pulp logs.
The company highlighted that, along with the adaptation of the rolling stock, the start of the new service involved a challenge of geographical growth by extending its operational coverage radius from Mariquina to the Rapaco sector. This territorial expansion required administrative and logistical deployment, which was accompanied by the incorporation and training of personnel to operate on the new routes.
"The launch of this service confirms the technical and operational trust that CMPC places in our management. This project represented a significant challenge in terms of fleet preparation, expansion of our routes towards Rapaco, and training of our teams. Venturing into this type of specialized transport to supply CMPC's most important cellulose plant in the country demonstrates our adaptability and consolidates our position in Chile's forest logistics," detailed Eric Lobo, General Manager of Transap.
