The sanctioned Russian shadow fleet oil tanker Fina A was attacked by Ukrainian forces on 17 June. In addition to the strike on the vessel, Ukraine also targeted multiple military logistics facilities and command posts in Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine.
The Fina A was hit in the Black Sea during an overnight operation. Ukrainian General Staff confirmed the incident while the extent of the damage is still being assessed.
The vessel has been used to export Russian oil, helping to circumvent the G7 price cap. It has been sanctioned by the EU, Canada, Switzerland, the UK, and Ukraine.
Ukrainian forces also struck Russian infrastructure used to transport equipment, personnel, and supplies within the occupied territories of Ukraine.
The Fina A is a crude oil tanker flagged to Equatorial Guinea and built in 2004. The vessel measures 244 metres in length, with a beam of 42 metres and a gross tonnage of 62,002.
