Pakistan's Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, requested the prompt release of the crew members held hostage off the coast of Somalia, during a phone call with his Somali counterpart, Abdisalam Abdi Ali. The seafarers were aboard the Honour 25, which was hijacked in April.
Dar conveyed Pakistan's "grave" concern over the situation and emphasized the importance of ensuring the well-being of the hostages, their prompt release, and their safe repatriation, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ali assured Dar that Somalia is making "continuous and sincere efforts" to achieve the release of the hostages as soon as possible. Both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination until the matter is resolved.
Eleven Pakistani citizens were taken hostage aboard the vessel Honour 25 when the unit was hijacked off the southeastern coast of Somalia on April 21.
The Pakistani sailors, along with the other crew members of the vessel, remain in captivity. The statement did not specify who was responsible for the hijacking.
Furthermore, Somalia's Foreign Minister "praised" Pakistan's "constructive" mediation and diplomatic efforts to reach a negotiated solution to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
