The Ministry of Shipping of India reported a fire on an oil tanker off the coast of Oman with 24 Indian sailors on board, adding that all of them are safe.
The vessel, flagged in Madagascar and named Marivex, was not carrying cargo, as detailed in a press conference by Opesh Kumar Sharma, director of the federal ministry of ports and shipping.
"All Indian sailors are safe at this moment. We are coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs, our Indian missions abroad, the Indian Navy, and the Ministry of Defense to ensure their safety," Sharma stated.
The Indian official noted that the cause of the fire, which broke out on the vessel at 1:30 p.m. local time, is currently unknown.
Indian officials are in contact with Omani authorities for the rescue and safety of the sailors, as reported by the Indian embassy in a post on X.
