As per the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine all 8 of the vessels are vital part of fuel supply to the occupied regions of Crimea, and travelled regularly between the Kirch Strait and other Russian ports.
The Ukrainian drone force commander Robert Brovdi listed the names of the vessels as Venera-3, Sanar-1, Sanar-17, Climene, Teti, Aleksey Savrasov, Penelope and the eighth one is still not identified.
Brovdi further claimed that all these vessels are under international sanctions list.
Each of the vessels measure a length of 140 metres, a width of 16 metres, and have a deadweight tonnage of around 7000.
Brovdi said the tankers were among a total of 58 targets struck in the operation. In addition to the tankers, other targets included a bulk carrier in the Sea of Azov, and a ferry near occupied Crimea.
The Ukrainian attacks are aimed at degrading or cutting off fuel supplies to Crimea, which is already facing a severe energy crisis due to the war.
