Port of Eidfjord Expands Pier by 40 Meters with New Operational Measures

Since the successful completion of the 40-meter pier extension at the Port of Eidfjord in Norway in May, significant improvements have been made to on-shore logistics. For example, specific zones for pedestrian traffic and bus traffic have been clearly defined and marked.

These adjustments are designed to optimize passenger flow during embarkation and disembarkation, while ensuring a more structured and efficient use of space.

"Safety remains our top priority. Access to the ISPS area will be monitored and controlled throughout the ship's stay," stated Inge Tangeras, CEO of Visit Eidfjord and Cruise Destination Hardangerfjord.

"The new 160-meter length of the pier allows for greater capacity and operational flexibility," Tangeras also celebrated.

The new design has been developed with special attention to minimizing interaction between pedestrians and vehicles, contributing to a safer and more comfortable experience for both passengers and crew.

Additionally, the platform for shore power facilities has already been completed as part of the pier extension. The contract for the acquisition of equipment has been signed, with delivery scheduled to begin in February 2027. The 12 MVA shore power facility is planned to be operational by April 2027.

Meanwhile, the Eidfjord Municipal Council formally adopted the Sustainability Policy and Strategic Plan 2026-2030 of Visit Eidfjord, reaffirming the municipality's long-term commitment to sustainable cruise tourism and responsible destination management.

This strategy strengthens Eidfjord's position as a sustainable cruise destination, balancing tourist growth with the protection of nature, local communities, and cultural heritage, while generating greater value for the local community, visitors, and partners.

Key commitments include a policy of one cruise ship per day, a maximum of 4,500 passengers, at least 50% of calls connected to shore power in 2027 and 100% by 2030, continuous efforts to attract low-emission cruise vessels, among others.
