A major fire broke out aboard an inland cruise ship, Botticelli, while berthed in the Eastern Basin of the Port of Honfleur, France, on 29 June. The incident occurred while the vessel was on a week-long river cruise from Paris to the Normandy coast.
At approximately 3:30 am local time, the fire was reported aboard the vessel while it was preparing to depart towards the Seine. In response to the situation, around 90 firefighters arrived along with emergency crews from Honfleur and nearby towns to contain the fire. Additional teams from neighbouring emergency services, including specialists in water rescue and hazardous materials, were also deployed to fight the blaze.
As a precaution, containment booms were deployed, and authorities closed nearby road and diverted the traffic to allow emergency vehicles to enter.
All 163 individuals, including 132 passengers and 31 crewmembers, were safely evacuated and underwent medical monitoring by the medical team at Poudreux community hall in Honfleur. Following the examination, all passengers were provided with food and water before being accommodated in local hotels arranged by the shipowner and tour operator.
The fire burned for several hours before being largely brought under control at around 7:00 am. Firefighters subsequently boarded the vessel at approximately 9:45 am to conduct inspections alongside port authorities. The incident caused significant damage to the ship.
Botticelli is a France-flagged inland cruise ship owned by the CroisiEurope company. The vessel measures 110 meters in length and 11 meters in width.
