Costa Cruises will restructure its itinerary approach from summer 2027, introducing concept-based cruises designed around specific themes rather than traditional port sequences.
The cruise line's Sea & Land Wonder Platform, launched in 2024, will evolve to create itineraries with distinct identities built around specific experiences and locations. Each cruise will be marketed as a concept with its own name and theme.
"When we launched the Sea & Land Wonder Platform, our goal was clear: to place wonder at the heart of every moment of the journey, at sea and on land," said Francesco Muglia, CCO & SVP of Costa Cruises. "Results have confirmed that guests are increasingly seeking authentic experiences that leave a lasting impression."
According to Costa's data, 85% of partners identify experiential coherence as a key factor in itinerary choice, with booking intent for the new concepts increasing by 5%.
The new approach will introduce themed itineraries including Dolce Vita aboard Costa Fascinosa, featuring destinations from Taormina to Stromboli Bay. Golden Islands, also on Costa Fascinosa, will include Palma de Mallorca, Formentera Bay, Tavolara and Aranci Gulf.
In the Eastern Mediterranean, Blue Islands aboard Costa Serena will cover Greek destinations including Mykonos, Athens, Cefalonia and Cape Sounion.
Additional concepts include Lights of the Mediterranean in the Western Mediterranean, Sea of Lights covering Greece and Turkey, and Nordic Souls in Northern Europe covering fjords and Scandinavian destinations from Copenhagen to Geirangerfjord, Bergen and Stavanger.
Costa Fascinosa will host a total solar eclipse experience at sea on August 2, 2027, following the sold-out 2026 edition.
The 2026 programme will feature Sea Destinations where ships pause at specific sea locations, combined with traditional land destinations. Western Mediterranean itineraries aboard Costa Smeralda, Costa Toscana and Costa Pacifica will include Barcelona, Marseille, Palma de Mallorca, Palermo and Naples.
Eastern Mediterranean cruises aboard Costa Fascinosa, Costa Deliziosa and Costa Fortuna will connect Athens, Istanbul and Dubrovnik with sea experiences including Venice Lagoon and Dardanelles Strait.
Northern Europe itineraries aboard Costa Diadema and Costa Favolosa will feature Geirangerfjord, Norwegian Sea locations, Scandinavian cities, Scottish Highlands and Arctic landscapes.
Costa Smeralda will debut in the Canary Islands, introducing Atlantic itineraries featuring volcanic landscapes and stargazing experiences at Canary Sea Darkest Spot.
Winter programmes will extend across the Mediterranean between Andalusia and North Africa, and in the Caribbean aboard Costa Fascinosa and Costa Favolosa. Costa Toscana will operate in the Western Mediterranean from March 2027, adding Balearic Sea Darkest Spot experiences.
"Summer 2026 marks the full maturity of the Sea & Land approach, with guest satisfaction increasing by over 3 points year on year," said Luigi Stefanelli, VP sales. "With the Summer 2027 concepts, the way of choosing a cruise itself will change. No longer 'where to go', but 'what to experience'."
