In summer 2027, Carnival Corporation's subsidiary Costa Cruises will introduce a new itinerary design, moving beyond traditional port-focused schedules to themed cruisetours.
The initiative represents the next stage in the evolution of Costa's Sea & Land Wonder Platform, introduced in 2024, which combines experiences at sea and ashore into a unified travel concept.
Under the revised strategy, itineraries will no longer be defined solely by geography. Instead, each voyage will be structured around a specific narrative, linking destinations, sea-based experiences and key moments throughout the journey.
Costa indicated that the concept is designed to place equal emphasis on the time spent at sea and the destinations visited, creating a more coherent travel experience.
The company reported that guest demand continues to favour authentic and memorable experiences, while research among trade partners showed that experiential consistency has become an increasingly important factor in itinerary selection. Costa also noted that the new concept-based approach has generated higher booking interest compared with traditional itinerary formats.
Among the new voyages announced for summer 2027 is Dolce Vita aboard Costa Fascinosa. The itinerary combines Mediterranean destinations with sea-based experiences, including a sunset viewing near Stromboli, where the volcanic landscape becomes a focal point of the voyage. Another Costa Fascinosa programme, Golden Islands, links destinations such as Palma de Mallorca, Formentera, Tavolara and the Gulf of Aranci, incorporating experiences including sunrise and sunset events and an evening swim off Sardinia.
In the Eastern Mediterranean, Costa Serena will operate the Blue Islands itinerary, connecting destinations including Mykonos, Athens/Piraeus, Kefalonia and Cape Sounion. The voyage has been designed around some of the region's most recognisable seascapes and cultural landmarks.
Additional concepts will expand the programme across both the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. These include Lights of the Mediterranean, Sea of Lights, Aegean Icons, Aegean Islands, Adriatic & Cyclades, Seaside Dreams and Nordic Souls. Each itinerary is intended to present a different interpretation of its region through a combination of destinations, landscapes and onboard experiences.
Northern Europe will also play a key role in the programme, with Nordic Souls exploring Scandinavian destinations and Norwegian fjords, including Copenhagen, Geirangerfjord, Bergen and Stavanger.
A further highlight of the 2027 season will be the return of Costa's Solar Eclipse Cruise. Following strong demand for the 2026 voyage, Costa Fascinosa is scheduled to host a new eclipse-themed sailing departing on August 2nd, 2027, positioning guests at sea to observe the astronomical event.
