Branching into Egypt, China's Century Cruises opened sales for Westerners on Nile River cruises in 2027.
They will sail on the 20-cabin Terramar, part of Egypt's Sunrise Resorts & Cruises, which fields luxury Nile vessels and has docking rights in key locations. Century Cruises holds a majority stake in Sunrise and has been offering Nile cruises for Chinese travelers via charter.
Century's Nile program follows more than 30 years of operating on the Yangtze River and its recent expansion into Europe with the newly delivered Century Star, set to begin operating in September on the Danube and Rhine.
"Our guests have been asking us for years if we'd ever bring the Century experience to the Nile," said David Fredericks, president and GM of Century Cruises' Americas division. "We took that feedback seriously. Egypt is one of the world's most extraordinary destinations, and we wanted to create an experience that reflects everything Century Cruises stands for — beautiful ships, exceptional service, authentic cultural experiences and outstanding value."
Fredericks added: "This is just the beginning, and we look forward to growing our presence on the Nile with additional departures and new vessels in the years ahead." As he earlier told Seatrade Cruise News, Nile newbuilds are planned at the company's owned Egypt shipyard.
In 2027, the 11-day "Treasures of the Nile" explores Egypt's most iconic landmarks, traveling from Cairo to Luxor with a focus on the country's ancient history and cultural heritage.
The 15-day "Legends of Egypt" adds a four-day extension in the Red Sea resort of Hurghada, where activities include diving, camel riding and desert adventures.
Cruise packages include round-trip airfare from the United States, private transfers, three nights in Cairo, seven nights aboard Terramar, guided sightseeing, gourmet dining, complimentary beer and wine during lunch and dinner and a selection of included Signature premium shore excursions.
The extended 15-day itinerary also includes transfers to Hurghada, a three-night resort stay, daily excursions, meals and transportation back to Cairo.
Both itineraries offer Heritage Collection shore excursions that focus on cultural immersion, with privileged access available exclusively to Century Cruises.
Terramar's accommodations range from 323 square feet for the junior suite to 463 square feet for the royal panoramic suite.
Facilities include a swimming pool, spa and fitness center, with evening entertainment and lectures about Egyptian history and the Nile.
