DP World has reached a preliminary agreement with the Fujairah Port Authority for a 50-year concession of two new terminals on the east coast of the United Arab Emirates: the Al Rugaylat container and multipurpose terminal and the Dibba general cargo terminal.
The project will establish a new deep-water commercial port on the east coast of the UAE, capable of handling the latest generation of ultra-large container vessels. Al Rugaylat is designed to handle up to 2.5 million TEUs annually, along with 1.7 million tons of general cargo and 190,000 car equivalent units (CEU), while Dibba will add up to 3.6 million tons of annual general cargo capacity.
Saleh Bin Mohamed Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Fujairah Port Authority, stated that "the alliance with DP World represents a significant milestone in the continuous development of Fujairah as one of the most important maritime gateways in the region. The Al Rugaylat and Dibba terminals will bring first-class operational capacity, increased throughput, and new investments to the emirate. We look forward to collaborating with DP World to deliver a project that will benefit customers, communities, and the wider UAE economy."
Essa Kazim, Chairman of DP World, added that "the UAE has been instrumental in DP World's trajectory for over four decades, and this investment reflects our confidence in its future as one of the world's leading trade and logistics hubs. Leveraging the strength of Jebel Ali, this project reinforces our commitment to the UAE and consolidates the country's strategic role in global trade."
Once operational, this project will increase DP World's total container handling capacity in the United Arab Emirates from 19.4 million TEUs to nearly 22 million TEUs, while significantly expanding general cargo and roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) capacity.
