(11:05 a.m. EDT) — Carnival Cruise Line has announced a series of events to mark America's 250th birthday, including ship meetups and fireworks displays, homeport celebrations and special onboard activities.
The festivities are part of Carnival's role as an official America250 partner.
"As America's cruise line, we are bringing the fun from coast to coast so everyone can celebrate," said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. "There is no better way to honor this milestone than by bringing people together to salute our nation and create unforgettable moments at sea and ashore."
Guests on select ships will enjoy themed parties, 250th birthday decorations, appearances from Dr. Seuss's Cat in the Hat, and festive food and drinks, including specialty cocktails, strawberry shortcake, limited-edition America250 souvenir Coke cans and "America's Cruisin" beer.
Several Carnival ships will display forty-foot inflatables on embarkation day.
On July 4, seven Carnival ships sailing from the East Coast will meet up near Celebration Key, the line's exclusive destination in Grand Bahama, for a special fireworks show.
Three ships will also meet up for a front row seat to the Port of San Diego's Big Bay Boom, for which Carnival is the official cruise line sponsor.
One military family on each cruise the week of July 4 will receive an American flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol. Veterans and active-duty military on those voyages will also get a special-edition military pin.
Carnival will host homeport celebrations on select ships, with community partners and veterans invited to attend. Events are scheduled aboard Carnival Pride in Baltimore on June 28, Carnival Radiance in Long Beach on June 30, Carnival Elation in Jacksonville and Carnival Paradise in Tampa on July 2.
The cruise line will also sponsor several shoreside events, including the Virginia Sail250 Fireworks Show on June 20, the Port of San Diego Bay Boom on July 4, and the Miami-Dade 250 Independence Day Celebration on July 4.
