The National Secretariat for Risk Management reported on June 8 about the damage caused by a high-energy swell originating from the southwest Pacific Ocean in the cantons of Santa Elena, Salinas, and La Libertad. The maritime phenomenon impacted several sectors of the Ecuadorian coast, creating adverse conditions for fishing, tourism, and operational activities in areas near the coast.
Among the main damages recorded are the destruction of two fishing vessels in the Puerto Chanduy sector, as well as the accumulation of debris on the Mar Bravo road in Salinas, where cleaning efforts are underway. In La Libertad, authorities are conducting evaluation processes to determine the extent of the damage, while monitoring and inter-institutional coordination actions continue.
Authorities maintain permanent vigilance over sea conditions to prevent new impacts on fishing, maritime, and logistics activities in the coastal area. This type of event highlights the importance of strengthening early warning systems and the resilience of coastal infrastructure to ensure the safety of maritime operations and the continuity of logistics chains on the Ecuadorian coast.
