The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Peru (MTC) held a working meeting with the Association of Shipowners and Related Activities of Loreto (Aarman) to optimize river transport in the Amazon.
The objective of this meeting was to discuss the current needs of the sector and analyze joint proposals aimed at promoting the formalization of river shipowners, technically reviewing opportunities for improvement in current administrative processes and guidelines.
The session, led by the head of the MTC's Cabinet of Advisors, Ana Reátegui, was attended by the president of the board of directors of the National Port Authority (APN), Abel Alvarado; the head of Aarman, Carmen Núñez; and the technical team of the National Port Company (Enapu).
During the meeting, the authorities indicated that the viability of various initiatives to adapt regulations to the operational reality of river transport is being analyzed, as well as exploring alternatives for the efficient use of Enapu's port in Iquitos.
These working groups seek to promote the formalization of the Loreto fleet to consolidate safe and orderly operations. Likewise, the strategic relevance of the State's port terminal in Iquitos was highlighted as a key asset to boost the economy and regional development.
"The MTC reaffirms its commitment to continue working in an articulated, technical, and transparent manner with all involved entities and local guilds. Actions will remain focused on designing viable solutions that respond to the structural challenges of transport in the Amazon, thus protecting the development and well-being of families in the region," the Peruvian ministry communicated.
