Through a letter addressed to President José María Balcázar, they requested the immediate approval of emergency decrees establishing subsidies for the sector and recalled that these measures had already been agreed upon with authorities in a meeting held on April 14.
Various land cargo and passenger transport guilds in the country warned that they would observe an indefinite national strike starting next June 2 if the Executive does not approve urgent measures to address "the sustained increase in fuel prices."
Through a letter addressed to the President of the Republic, José María Balcázar, interprovincial, provincial urban, and Lima and Callao urban transport organizations requested "the immediate approval of emergency decrees" establishing subsidies for land cargo and passenger transport.
Likewise, they indicated that the need to adopt these measures had already been agreed upon in a meeting held on April 14 between competent authorities and transport guilds, where the urgency of implementing "economic instruments to mitigate the effects of the crisis" was recognized.
They also pointed out that the delay in the approval of the decrees compromises the "continuity of public passenger and cargo transport service," affects the distribution of essential goods throughout the country, and jeopardizes the economic stability of thousands of families linked to the sector.
In this regard, they urged the Presidency of the Council of Ministers to accelerate the approval of the requested measures.
Finally, they announced that, if they do not receive a favorable response within a "reasonable timeframe," they will initiate an indefinite national strike of cargo and passenger transport starting June 2.
