The Supervisory Agency for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin) stated that Urgency Decree N° 003-2026, issued by the Executive Branch on May 11 of this year, to establish extraordinary measures to mitigate the energy crisis, will allow the continued supply of fuel in the jungle and southern part of Peruvian territory.
"This was something that became necessary after a series of promises had been made. In the end, a positive measure was taken because this will allow Petroperú to continue operations and to keep supplying, especially to markets like the jungle and the south of the country, where private companies do not go," said Osinergmin's acting president, Aurelio Ochoa, on Andina Canal Online.
"Petroperú supplies 80% of the fuel required in those areas and allows their economic activities to continue functioning," he added.
Aurelio Ochoa commented that the aforementioned urgency decree is a quite different modality from previous ones, because a trust is being formed that will be in charge of ProInversión.
"Petroperú has been authorized to borrow from abroad, but it will be exclusively for working capital, that is, the acquisition of oil, which is the raw material to produce fuel," he indicated.
"There is a fundamental difference in relation to previous urgency decrees. Here, Petroperú is given safeguards so that the resources are not freely available," he added.
The president of Osinergmin considered it essential to begin a restructuring of Petroperú because a series of errors that have continued to be implemented must be corrected.
"The necessary corrections and the restructuring of the company must be made, for example, the number of management positions and employees," he stated.
