The President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, participated today in Greece as a witness of honor in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Panamanian company Nautilus Manning Agency, S.A. and the Greek shipping company Tsakos Shipping & Trading, an initiative that will contribute to generating new employment and training opportunities for Panamanian seafarers.
During the meeting, the owners of Tsakos Shipping & Trading, Panagiotis Tsakos and Nikolas Tsakos, personally informed President Mulino and the official Panamanian delegation that four Panamax vessels currently under construction, with delivery scheduled for 2028, will be registered under the Panamanian flag.
The Memorandum of Understanding establishes a framework for cooperation between Nautilus Manning Agency, S.A. and Tsakos Shipping & Trading with the purpose of facilitating access for Panamanian seafarers to job positions aboard these vessels, as well as promoting training and professional development programs in the maritime sector.
Nautilus Manning Agency, S.A. is a Panamanian company specializing in the recruitment and management of maritime personnel for the international shipping industry. Through this agreement, opportunities will be created for Panamanian cadets and officers, strengthening human capital formation and expanding Panama's participation in the global maritime labor market.
The cooperation between both companies also includes the development of specialized maritime training programs aimed at Panamanian seafarers, with the objective of preparing them to perform on different types of vessels operated by the Greek shipping company's fleet. This initiative will contribute to raising the levels of technical knowledge, operational performance, and professional competitiveness of Panamanian seafarers.
The participation of President Mulino and the official Panamanian delegation reflects the strategic importance of this agreement for job creation, the strengthening of national human talent, and the continuous development of the maritime sector, one of the pillars of the Panamanian economy.
The Minister for Canal Affairs, José Ramón Icaza, who accompanies President Mulino on his official visit to Greece, highlighted that this decision by Tsakos Shipping & Trading constitutes a show of confidence in the Panama Ship Registry and in the competitiveness of the maritime route that offers the Panama Canal.
"These four vessels are being designed with Panamax dimensions, which demonstrates the confidence of this company and the international maritime industry in the Panama Canal route and in the strategic role that our country continues to play in world trade," said Icaza.
