The Puerto del Maule project continues its process of territorial engagement. The potential maritime terminal would be located on the limits of the beach of the old Port of Constitución, built in 1920.
Over the past few weeks, various seminars have been held in the city of Constitución, where residents and experts have been informed about the potential impact of undertaking such a project in the area.
In these community-open meetings, the academic world has also been heard, contributing their knowledge to improve the original proposal called "Port for Maule, a maritime solution".
In this regard, Hugo Baesler, professor of the Ports course at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Chile and part of the project, highlighted how the initiative's design has evolved, stating that "the important thing is that we located the port further offshore. This is a notable change we made in the second seminar; this modification allows us to respond to historical challenges of the original location and move towards a more robust infrastructure solution."
According to the institutional media of the University of Chile, the project includes the construction of terminals to receive containers and bulk cargo, positioning itself as a great opportunity to reduce existing labor gaps in the Maule Region.
Furthermore, it was noted that Codelco's El Teniente division would be interested in participating in the initiative, as it would be an important opportunity to enhance the country's mining logistics.
