Within the framework of the commemoration of World Day for Safety and Health at Work, Port San Antonio recognized outstanding workers from various companies within the port system for their contribution to strengthening safety in operations, preventing accidents, and promoting a culture of protection and occupational well-being.
During the event, which included the participation of the chairman of the board of Port San Antonio, Eduardo Abedrado Bustos, local authorities, and representatives of the joint committees and executives of the port company, the concessionaires detailed the good safety practices implemented in the terminals to foster safer, more collaborative, and conscious work environments.
The recognized individuals were Paula Romero González, from Terquim; Juan Correa Barrios, from QC Policarpo Toro; Pedro Orellana Farías, from Puerto Panul; Cristián Celsi Mena, from DP World in San Antonio; Danae Díaz Rojas, from Muellaje Central; Claudio Villalobos Vega, from Port San Antonio; Lorena Olivera Salas, from STI; Michelle Osorio Flores, from Muellaje STI; and Mónica Araneda Perret, from Muellaje del Maipo.
Fernando Gajardo Vásquez, interim general manager of Port San Antonio, highlighted that "in this act, we have recognized workers who, with their commitment and from their different roles, collaborated to reduce the accident frequency rate in 2025 by 8% compared to 2024. Furthermore, during the first three months of this year, we recorded a 29% decrease in accidents and a 49% decrease in the severity index, associated with lost days. These achievements are very valuable because they are the result of the joint work developed with concessionaires, joint committees, and workers to increase safety in port operations."
At the event, Port San Antonio received, from the Chilean Safety Association (ACHS), the Intermediate Certification for its Joint Committee, thus becoming the first company in the Valparaíso Region to obtain it in 2026.
"This recognition provides continuity to the initial certification obtained by our Joint Committee in 2024 and represents a significant advance in the maturity level of our preventive system, consolidating a more structured and sustainable management in occupational safety and health," explained Fernando Gajardo.
Patricio Fredes, president of the Federation of Port Workers San Antonio International Terminal (Fetraporsati), commented that "when one leaves home, one must think that they must return just as they left. And the most important thing is that all workers at home have our families, our children, and we must always value that first, which is why self-care is the most important thing. There are still many things to do, but the numbers show interesting progress."
"It is very important to promote safety at work, and together with my colleagues, we aim to focus on a life of safety," commented Lorena Olivera, a recognized STI worker.
The provincial presidential delegate of San Antonio, Soledad Loyola, emphasized that "we have verified a permanent commitment to safety, with training and preventive management, which is key to preventing accidents."
The ceremony also included the signing of commitments in occupational safety and health for the year 2026, reaffirming the willingness of the participating entities to continue advancing in the continuous improvement of their standards and practices.
