PT Pelindo Regional 2 Pontianak Group officially carried out the first container loading and unloading operation for PT Pulau Laut Line at the Kijing Terminal, a milestone that represents a significant advance in the development of West Kalimantan's largest port as an international logistics and commercial hub.
The first container service was carried out on the Pasir Gudang-Batam-Kijing-ICA-Kijing-Pasir Gudang route, with the discharge of 70 empty containers. This marked the beginning of container service operations at the Kijing Terminal, following preparations made by Pelindo Regional 2 Pontianak for installation, equipment, systems, and regulatory compliance.
Pelindo Regional 2 Pontianak General Manager, Kalbar Yanto, stated that the first container service represents a strategic achievement in the effort to consolidate the Kijing Terminal as a modern logistics hub in West Kalimantan.
"The inaugural container service at Kijing Terminal is an important milestone in the development of a modern port in West Kalimantan. With the start of this service, Kijing Terminal is better prepared to facilitate logistics flow, increase the competitiveness of regional exports, and boost economic growth and investment in West Kalimantan," Yanto declared.
According to the executive, Pelindo continues to improve its facilities and equipment so that the Kijing Terminal can offer more efficient, safe, and internationally compliant services.
"We are optimistic that the presence of this container service will provide a more effective logistics alternative for companies. Moving forward, Kijing Terminal is expected to become an important logistics hub serving the needs of industry, trade, exports, and imports in West Kalimantan and the surrounding region," Yanto also said.
The executive added that Pelindo continues to strengthen collaboration with the government, businesses, and all stakeholders to optimize the use of the Kijing Terminal as a gateway for international trade in West Kalimantan.
The Kijing Terminal is part of the National Strategic Project (PSN) and officially began operations on August 9, 2022. This port has complete facilities and equipment to serve various types of vessels, including container ships, dry bulk carriers, liquid bulk carriers, and multipurpose vessels, with a capacity of up to 100 thousand DWT.
The performance of the Kijing Terminal also shows a positive trend. As of May 2026, the number of vessel calls reached 404, an increase of 28.7% compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, dry bulk movement grew by 96.3%, reaching 1.57 million tons, and liquid bulk increased by 80.8%, reaching 1.07 million tons.
In addition, the Kijing Terminal currently has various supporting equipment for container handling, such as a mobile harbor crane, a reach stacker, a head truck, a 45-foot chassis, and a quay container crane (QCC), which arrived at the terminal in May 2026.
With the start of container services, Kijing is expected to further strengthen national and international logistics connectivity and become an engine of economic growth in West Kalimantan.
