The North Terminal of the Port of Callao, operated by APM Terminals Callao, marked a milestone in the Peruvian maritime industry by serving the Glovis Leader, considered the largest car carrier in the world.
This imposing vessel has the capacity to mobilize 10,800 CEU (Car Equivalent Units), significantly surpassing the Ro-Ro type vessels that usually call at the terminal, whose average capacity ranges between 5,000 and 6,000 vehicles.
Previous investments made in the North Terminal have been fundamental in ensuring that the infrastructure is ready for challenges of this magnitude. Stephany Bravo De Rueda, General Cargo Commercial Manager at APM Terminals Callao, highlighted the impact of this arrival:
«Serving a vessel of these characteristics confirms that our infrastructure, equipment, and operational talent are prepared to respond to the new demands of the automotive industry. This milestone demonstrates that APM Terminals Callao continues to strengthen the capabilities of the North Terminal to receive increasingly modern vessels, ensuring efficient and reliable operations for our clients.»
This achievement is just the prelude to a larger expansion. On June 26, 2026, construction for Stage 3B will begin.
This project will be developed in two phases and involves an investment of USD 570 million in civil works for general and containerized cargo. The objective is to consolidate Callao as a world-class port, enhancing the competitiveness of Peruvian foreign trade in the face of global maritime transport trends.
