Mulino and Fujimori Relaunch Bilateral Relations Focused on Ports and the Canal

The President of Panama, José Raúl Mulino, and his Peruvian counterpart, Keiko Fujimori, relaunched relations between both countries, focusing on strengthening the current Free Trade Agreement, ports, and Peru's adherence to the Treaty of Neutrality of the Panamanian interoceanic canal. These points were addressed during the first meeting held by both leaders.

Mulino and Fujimori agreed on the essential partnership between Panama and Peru, especially regarding economic complementarity.

"We are willing to continue advancing our agenda, to dust off our free trade agreement a bit; I am very optimistic about this new impetus in the Peru-Panama relationship," Mulino stated.

The presidents also agreed to explore the possibility of an open skies agreement to boost air transport between both countries, in addition to seeking Panama's removal from the tax list where Peru maintains it.

President Mulino, accompanied by Panamanian Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha, formally invited Fujimori to participate in the upcoming 2027 Economic Forum to be held by the CAF Development Bank in Panama.
