The Port Authority of Valencia (APV) continues to advance its electrification and decarbonization strategy by tendering the construction of a new electrical energy distribution center in the Port of Valencia, as well as the execution of the necessary civil works to enable its connection with the current and future channeling of the port area. The project has a budget exceeding USD 4.5 million.
This project will allow the distribution of new electrical power from the ST1 substation, whose construction is already nearing completion. The new energy infrastructure will be fundamental to guarantee the electrical supply to the terminals and advance the implementation of more sustainable technologies within the port.
The 132 kV ST1 substation will become operational during the second half of 2026 and is part of the main actions contemplated within the Valenciaport Net Zero Emissions plan. This roadmap sets the goal of achieving net zero emissions in the ports managed by the APV by 2035, through actions focused on electrification, energy efficiency, the promotion of renewable energies, and the development of more sustainable infrastructures.
Among the planned initiatives are the deployment of the OPS system for electrical supply to ships, the electrification of terminals, the promotion of the use of alternative fuels, and the development of renewable generation facilities. In this regard, Valenciaport expects that by the end of 2028, eight of the 10 docks capable of having OPS will be electrified, representing 80% of the total.
With this update, Valenciaport reinforces its commitment to energy transition and sustainability, consolidating an electrical network prepared to respond to the port's future operational and environmental needs, as well as to European objectives for the decarbonization of maritime transport and port logistics.
