The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), through the National Port Authority (APN), reported that Jorge Chávez International Airport would be connected to the Chancay Multipurpose Port Terminal via a logistics corridor that will boost the flow of e-commerce cargo from Asia to South America. The initiative has an investment of US$20 million and is expected to be operational before the end of 2026.
According to Lima Airport Partners (LAP), the connection is part of a "sea-land-air" logistics model that aims to transform Lima into a regional center for international cargo distribution. The scheme leverages the maritime connectivity of Chancay port to transport cargo by land to Jorge Chávez airport, from where it will be distributed by air to different markets in the region.
As part of the project, a modern 6,885 square meter cargo warehouse with a direct connection to airport operations will also be implemented, an infrastructure that will optimize the transit of goods.
This logistics integration seeks to reduce logistics times and costs and strengthen Peru's position as a strategic platform between Asia and South America.
Currently, Jorge Chávez International Airport handles close to 90% of national air cargo, positioning it as a key hub for articulation with the port of Chancay and the strengthening of foreign trade.
With this initiative, the MTC continues to promote the development of a modern and efficient National Port System, contributing to positioning Peru as the main port and logistics benchmark in South America.
