The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) presented the main private investment opportunities offered by the province of Islay in the agribusiness, logistics and port services, sustainable tourism, fishing, and aquaculture sectors, highlighting its strategic location to strengthen the integration of the Southern Axis and contribute to the economic development of the southern part of the country.
During the "Private Investment for Territorial Economic Development" workshop, private investment opportunities were presented for the development of agro-industrial plants, collection centers, storage and cold chain infrastructure, technified irrigation projects, and the production of value-added foods. Likewise, alternatives were identified for investing in logistics centers, cargo terminals, port and customs services, hotel projects, nature tourism, fish processing, aquaculture, and specialized services for foreign trade.
These opportunities are based on the competitive advantages of the Arequipa region, which recorded exports of USD 8289 million in 2025, driven mainly by the mining, agricultural, textile, and chemical sectors. In this context, the strategic role of Matarani port, the main port terminal in southern Peru, and the potential of the Corío Port project as a future logistics city that will strengthen commercial integration with Brazil, Bolivia, and Asian markets were highlighted.
During the meeting, the portfolio of projects promoted by PROINVERSIÓN in the Southern Axis and Arequipa was also highlighted, including Majes Siguas II, SITGAS, the massification of natural gas, the Las Joyas Photovoltaic Plant, and strategic road corridors, initiatives that will boost the competitiveness and connectivity of the southern macro-region.
The workshop, organized by PROINVERSIÓN together with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Islay and with the support of SUNAT, also served to disseminate mechanisms for facilitating private investment, as well as the main financial, tax, and customs benefits aimed at strengthening the development of investment projects, business activity, and foreign trade.
In this way, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, through PROINVERSIÓN, consolidates its leadership as a key promoter of private investment and decentralization, driving strategic projects that energize sustainable economic development nationwide.
