With the aim of strengthening maritime cargo transport between national ports and contributing to the development of more efficient and competitive logistics, the government approved the Regulations for Cabotage Promotion Mechanisms, through Supreme Decree N.° 014-2026-MTC, published today in the official gazette El Peruano.
This provision, promoted by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), regulates the provisions established in Law N.° 32049, which complements and modifies Legislative Decree N.° 1413, with the purpose of promoting and facilitating maritime transport in cabotage traffic.
The regulations establish mechanisms aimed at encouraging innovation, cargo consolidation, and the development of logistical and technological infrastructure linked to commercial maritime transport. Likewise, it seeks to generate favorable conditions for the implementation of projects that improve connectivity between the country's ports and optimize the national logistics chain.
"An important activity such as cabotage constitutes a strategic alternative for the transfer of goods along the Peruvian coast, complementing land transport. With these regulations, we also promote innovation through programs that will allow testing new logistical and technological solutions under the supervision of the MTC, driving greater efficiency in maritime transport and strengthening the country's competitiveness," highlighted the Minister of Transport and Communications, Aldo Prieto Barrera.
With this measure, the MTC reaffirms its commitment to the development of a modern, sustainable, and competitive multimodal transport system that contributes to the country's economic growth, the reduction of logistical costs, and the strengthening of national connectivity.
