The International Maritime Organization (IMO) announced the initiation of an evacuation plan for thousands of seafarers remaining aboard vessels in the Middle East, following the provisional peace agreement reached between the United States and Iran. The measure seeks to re-establish safe conditions for crews affected by months of tension and navigation restrictions in the region.
The IMO reported that it has obtained the necessary guarantees to execute the operation, as maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz begins to normalize. The reopening of this strategic waterway has allowed for the gradual resumption of vessel passage and the transport of significant volumes of oil and other energy cargoes from the Persian Gulf to international markets.
The recovery of maritime security in the Middle East represents a key factor for the stability of global supply chains and international trade. Furthermore, it favors the recovery of maritime connectivity, reduces risks for commercial navigation, and improves the efficiency of routes used for the global transport of energy and goods.
