The French-flagged container ship CMA CGM Galapagos, built in 2022, successfully completed its transit through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most strategic routes for global maritime trade. The crossing occurred in a context of high geopolitical tension in the Middle East, following recent incidents involving merchant vessels in the area.
CMA CGM reported that the transit was carried out safely, although it still has 10 vessels delayed in the Persian Gulf since the beginning of the regional conflict. In parallel, other shipping companies such as Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd also reported progress in mobilizing their vessels, while surveillance measures on navigation safety and the flow of energy trade continue.
The gradual normalization of operations in the Strait of Hormuz helps reduce uncertainty regarding international logistics chains and maritime transport. Nevertheless, the evolving geopolitical scenario keeps the shipping sector's attention, due to the importance of this route for global trade, energy supply, and the stability of international markets.
