CIMC Raffles has commenced construction of the first of four 4,700 TEU containerships for Alpha Bulkers Shipmanagement at its Longkou shipyard in China, marked by a steel-cutting ceremony.
This key milestone, following the contract signing, signifies the transition from the design phase to large-scale construction. Independently designed by CIMC ORIC and built by CIMC Raffles' Longkou shipyard, the series of vessels incorporates advanced maritime technology, ensuring efficiency in construction costs.
With an overall length of 220 meters, a molded beam of 37.3 meters, and a molded depth of 19.6 meters, the 4,700 TEU containership offers capacity for 850 refrigerated containers and has a design speed of 19 knots.
All vessels in the series will be built at the Longkou shipyard, which houses China's first thin plate production line incorporating hybrid laser welding technology for shipbuilding. Building on its track record in delivering LNG dual-fuel PCTC vessels, the shipyard is expanding its commercial shipbuilding portfolio beyond PCTCs.
Affiliated with the Greek shipping family Angelicoussis, Alpha Bulkers Shipmanagement Inc. manages a fleet of over 90 bulk carriers operating globally. This collaboration marks Alpha Bulkers' entry into the container shipping market and the first containership construction project for CIMC Raffles.
