Dali Chief Engineer Admits Criminal Conduct in Baltimore Bridge Allision
The chief engineer of the containership Dali, Karthikeyan Deenadayalan, admitted to criminal conduct under the Ports and Waterways Safety Act for failing to report a hazardous fuel supply arrangement before the vessel's catastrophic collision with Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26, 2024. The deferred prosecution agreement marks the first admission of criminal wrongdoing by an individual directly involved in operating the vessel. The incident killed six construction workers, shut down Port of Baltimore access for weeks, and caused an estimated $5 billion in economic damage.
