Seafarers Begin Strike Against Three Ships Owned by Iceland's Eimskip
Bosuns and able seamen represented by the Icelandic Seamen's Union (SI) began an indefinite strike on Monday, May 25, at noon against three Eimskip containerships: Bruarfoss, Dettifoss, and Selfoss. The strike follows the expiration of the union contract at year-end and disputes over wages and crew employment terms. Eimskip, facing financial pressure with EBITDA down nearly 40 percent year-over-year in Q1 2026 and a loss of €4.7 million, expects the strike to disrupt its sailing schedule and services.
