Swedish Court Approves Seizure of Cargo Ship for Ukraine
A Swedish court has approved the seizure of the general cargo ship Caffa (4,337 dwt) in response to Ukraine's request, marking the first time an international court has agreed to hold a vessel accountable for sanctions violations. Swedish prosecutors moved to seize the ship on April 29 after Ukrainian prosecutors filed a request on March 12, alleging the Caffa had systematically transported grain from occupied Ukrainian ports using false registration. The Ystad District court ruled the charges would constitute a war crime in Sweden, permitting the seizure.
