Passengers aboard Carnival Legend enjoyed Carnival's first-ever solar eclipse cruise, watching the natural phenomenon from the open waters of the North Atlantic Ocean.
The 11-day voyage departed Dover, England on Aug. 9. The roundtrip journey will take cruisers to various ports of call in the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Portugal and Belgium.
Carnival Legend's passengers gathered today on the top deck to watch the moon pass in front of the sun as the ship sailed through the path of totality, affording views of the total eclipse. The cruise line provided special eclipse-viewing glasses for all passengers and offered special eclipse programming with themed entertainment, beverage offerings and other activities.
The special sailing is billed as part of the cruise line's Carnival Journeys, a collection of longer, immersive itineraries designed to give passengers more time to explore unique destinations and enjoy special experiences at sea.
Carnival will offer three solar eclipse cruises in 2027, including a 16-day Carnival Journeys sailing aboard Carnival Firenze. The voyage departs on Feb. 2 from Buenos Aires, Argentina, visiting Rio de Janeiro and Maceio in Brazil as well as the Caribbean islands of Grenada, Martinique before arriving in Miami. The solar eclipse will take place on Feb. 6.
On July 25, Carnival Sunshine will depart Barcelona on a 10-day Mediterranean voyage designed to feature the Aug. 2 eclipse as its centerpiece. Meanwhile, Carnival Miracle is scheduled to embark on an 11-day solar eclipse voyage on July 29 from Dover.
