Soybean and corn maritime transport registered significant growth during the second quarter of 2026, driven by the increased exportable supply from South America. Brazil led the increase in shipments thanks to a record harvest, while Argentina strengthened corn exports.
The increase in shipments responded to higher international demand, especially from China, favored by competitive prices and inventory replenishment. In contrast, fertilizer maritime transport decreased due to logistical disruptions in the Persian Gulf and transit disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
The evolution of agricultural bulk trade reinforces South America's strategic role in supplying international markets. This behavior favors port activity, strengthens maritime logistics chains, and consolidates the region's relevance in the global trade of agricultural products.
