The strategic alliance between Cosco Shipping and Contecon continues to strengthen the operation of the Maritime Port of Guayaquil, with the projection of exceeding 900,000 containers moved during 2026. This cooperation has improved connectivity between Ecuador and Asia and consolidated the port as a strategic hub for national foreign trade.
The WSA 5 service reduced transit times to Asia from 45 to 27 days and expanded its capacity with vessels of up to 10,500 TEUs. The growth of commercial exchange with China also boosted port operations, especially for banana and shrimp exports, as well as the movement of inputs for national production.
The dynamism of trade between Ecuador and Asia increases the demand for port infrastructure with greater operational capacity. The deepening of Guayaquil's access channel will allow larger vessels to be served and respond to the evolution of the international shipping market. This project will be crucial for sustaining the growth of port operations projected for the coming years.
