The National Committee for the Regional Study of the El Niño Phenomenon (Erfen) reported that warm signals are currently being recorded in the equatorial Pacific, a condition that could mark the beginning of the El Niño phenomenon's development in the coming months. According to the organization, there is a high probability that this trend will continue to evolve, although no direct impacts on Ecuador or other countries in the region are expected for now.
Specialists indicated that the temperature anomalies observed in the central and eastern Pacific still need to consolidate through their interaction with the atmosphere to generate the characteristic effects of the phenomenon. This process influences climatic variables such as precipitation, winds, and meteorological patterns that can affect economic, productive, and logistical activities linked to foreign trade and maritime transport.
Authorities will maintain permanent monitoring to evaluate the evolution and intensity of the event. If current conditions consolidate, the most significant effects could appear towards the end of 2026, coinciding with the rainy season. The continuous analysis of these variables is relevant for the planning of strategic sectors such as port infrastructure, supply chains, transport infrastructure, and international trade operations in the region.
