Southern Cone Ports Corporation and Undersecretariat of Tourism Discuss Challenges of Cruise Tourism in Chile
The Board of Directors of the Southern Cone Ports Corporation met with the Undersecretary of Tourism, María Paz Lagos, to address strategic issues of cruise tourism in Chile. A comparative study of port costs in South America was presented, which showed that the Chilean coast has less competitive costs than most South American ports, particularly in piloting, pilotage, tugboats, and lighthouses. Discussions also covered participation in Seatrade Cruise Global 2026 (April 13-16 in Miami) and the project for a new port and cruise terminal in Ancud, Chiloé.
