As part of Puerto Ventanas S.A. (PVSA)'s commitment, a subsidiary of the Sigdo Koppers group, to the education of young people in Puchuncaví, the traditional welcome breakfast was held for 11 technical career students from the Bicentennial Educational Complex Sargento Aldea (C.E.B.S.A) of Las Ventanas who will complete their internship at the port during 2026.
During the event, the students shared with the mayor of Puchuncaví, Marcos Morales, councilors Rosa Berríos and Juan Elías, and were accompanied by their guide teachers, parents, and educators. The 3rd and 4th-year high school students specializing in Administration, Connectivity and Networks, and Electricity will be with the company until November of this year, performing various functions and different practical projects, thus familiarizing themselves with corporate work in the maritime-port sector.
During the ceremony, Mitze Ríos, Deputy Manager of People and Culture at PVSA, highlighted the importance of the dual students' presence for the port. "The DUAL program has been with us for 27 years. The new generations who are changing the reality of the world and the country are a very important contribution to our company. So, we are very happy to be with the program again and hope to continue contributing to the development of all the youth in our commune," she noted.
For his part, the mayor of Puchuncaví, Marcos Morales, praised the trajectory of the alliance between the educational institution and the port, and the opportunity the port generates for the young people of Puchuncaví. "Today, the participation of the students who begin this internship process puts them at the forefront, with their new cargo transfer system. Therefore, I am happy because students from our commune will have an enriching opportunity in what they are studying, which will allow them to grow as individuals, technicians, and future professionals," he stated.
This year, the dual students will work in the Maintenance, Naming, Storeroom, Costa Terminal, Communication, and Administration areas of PVSA, which will complement their theoretical skills and knowledge with a 100% practical perspective. In this regard, Cristián Vergara, director of C.E.B.S.A of Las Ventanas, assured that this opportunity "allows them to have an experience that will ultimately help them in their decision-making when they want to choose the career they wish to continue studying in the future."
Likewise, Angela Guzmán, a 4th-year high school student studying Administration, commented that "starting my internship process today at Puerto Ventanas S.A. means a great personal and professional opportunity. It is an experience that motivates me a lot, as it is an important company in the country, which allows me to get a close look at how the working world functions. Furthermore, this internship is directly related to what I want to study in the future, which is International Business Engineering, so I see it as a first step to learn, develop, and project myself in the working world."
During the welcome breakfast, the interns received a gift and were able to share experiences from their first days at Puerto Ventanas S.A. with the authorities and PVSA executives present.
Prior to the start of the program, with the support of the Chile DUAL foundation, the guide teachers were trained to deepen their understanding of, among other things, learning plans and tools for connecting with their apprentices.
