With the aim of strengthening preparedness and coordination in the face of emergencies in the maritime-port environment, Puerto Ventanas S.A. (PVSA), a subsidiary of the Sigdo Koppers group, together with the Regional Committee for Education and Dissemination of Safety in Maritime Activities (Coredsamar), held the seminar 'Mental Health and Disaster Resilience in the Maritime-Port Sector'.
The event also featured presentations from the Maritime Authority, the Institute of Occupational Health (IST), PVSA, and the National Service for Disaster Prevention and Response (Senapred). These institutions shared experiences, lessons learned, and best practices related to prevention, preparedness, and response capabilities for contingencies that may affect people and operations.
In this context, Luis Fuentes, Sustainable Operations Manager at Puerto Ventanas S.A., highlighted the importance of creating spaces for collaboration and reflection on these topics. "We value the realization of this seminar in conjunction with the maritime authority, the Municipality of Puchuncaví, and the companies in the bay; risk management and organizational resilience are strategic capabilities that allow us to anticipate, absorb, respond to, and adapt to disruptions, strengthening care and safety culture."
"Resilience in port operations begins with disciplined, systematic, and methodical risk management. Promoting initiatives that strengthen preparedness, coordinated work, and the care of people is fundamental to facing the current and future challenges of maritime-port activity," he added.
For his part, the Mayor of the commune of Puchuncaví, Marcos Morales, stated that "we want to continue working through conversation, innovation, and investment in preventive activities, something that is extremely important and fundamental. I want to highlight the role of Puerto Ventanas because, from its experience, it demonstrates that things can be done better and that we can all learn more every day."
The realization of this activity is part of the ongoing work promoted by Puerto Ventanas S.A. to contribute to the development of the territory, fostering training, dialogue, and engagement with public, private, and community stakeholders in the area.
