The Port of Long Beach, The Wonderful Company, and Lincoln Transportation Services signed a memorandum of understanding in support of developing the world's first port-driven Green Truck Corridor. The clean route will connect Long Beach with the Central Valley to improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gases on one of the busiest highways in the United States.
Port CEO, Dr. Noel Hacegaba, joined Jose Cardenas, CEO of Lincoln Transportation Services, and Joe Vargas, President of Wonderful Real Estate Development, to officially sign the MOU establishing a Green Truck Corridor that connects the heart of the country's agricultural production with its largest port complex and links two major economic engines: the Port of Long Beach, which moves over USD 300 billion in goods annually, and California's Central Valley agricultural industry, valued at USD 40 billion.
"By launching the world's first port-driven Green Truck Corridor, the Port of Long Beach continues to demonstrate that we can advance our economy and reduce our emissions at the same time," said Long Beach Mayor, Rex Richardson.
"This represents another example of how Long Beach is leading the way by fostering innovation in partnership with private industry in our city and across the region," he added.
The signing ceremony took place shortly after the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners unanimously voted to authorize the MOU.
"I want to thank Lincoln Transportation Services and The Wonderful Company for their participation in the Port's first dedicated green truck corridor," said President of the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners, Frank Colonna.
"Our industry partners have always been key to our success in improving the environment, and this is another great example of that," he added.
The MOU establishes a framework for collaboration and future development, reflecting an initial joint effort to move towards a more coordinated model of freight movement, connecting port operations, inland logistics capacity, and emerging zero-emission transport opportunities in a system planned to improve efficiency over time. Currently, more than 300,000 TEUs of imports and exports flow annually between the San Pedro Bay port complex and the southern Central Valley.
The Wonderful Logistics Center (WLC) is a 2,000-acre logistics hub, planned as a master development, located adjacent to the BNSF Railway mainline in Shafter, a Kern County city situated about 150 miles from the Port of Long Beach. WLC hosts tenants from multiple Fortune 50 companies and provides a critical inland connection between California ports and businesses in the western United States.
Lincoln will be the inaugural leading ambassador of the corridor. The Rancho Dominguez-based transportation company, which has ordered 300 Tesla Semi electric trucks, expects its first 50 to 70 trucks to arrive in June.
Lincoln's affiliated company, Voltz, is also in the process of manufacturing 100 new Voltz trucks to be delivered in the third quarter of 2027.
"By collaborating with The Wonderful Company and Lincoln Transportation Services to launch this first-of-its-kind green truck corridor, we are accelerating the deployment of clean trucks on one of the country's busiest inland trade routes," said Hacegaba.
"This innovative alliance builds on our work to decarbonize the trans-Pacific through our pioneering green shipping corridors, making the inland supply chain more efficient and sustainable. We are creating a cleaner supply chain while keeping the American economy moving," he complemented.
"Lincoln Transportation Services is proud to participate in the MOU and to take a leadership role in advancing zero-emission drayage transportation," said Sepehr Matinifar, President of Lincoln.
"By setting a strong example, we hope to inspire our industry partners to join us in creating a more sustainable future," he remarked.
"Wonderful Logistics Center was designed to connect California's Central Valley with global markets more efficiently," said Joe Vargas of Wonderful Real Estate.
"This corridor demonstrates how strategic master planning can generate real and lasting impact, and reflects how that system is being built over time through coordination, collaboration, and long-term planning that improves efficiency today while supporting the transition to cleaner freight transportation," he assured.
