Tanker Near Somalia Fires Warning Shots to Chase Off Suspicious Approach
A tanker in the Gulf of Aden fired warning shots on May 22 to repel a suspicious approach by a small craft with five people aboard, located approximately 98 nautical miles from Socotra. The incident marked the third suspicious approach in a week linked to Somali pirate groups. Three vessels remain under pirate control: MT Honour 25 (seized April 21), Sward (seized April 26), and Eureka (seized May 2), with pirates demanding $3 million for the Eureka's release.
