The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) informs the public that it continues to monitor the situation of the vessel Anchovetas II, which suffered an accident 4 nautical miles southeast of Puerto Caimito.
As a result of this incident, the rescue of eight (8) people alive and the regrettable death of one (1) person have been formally reported. At this time, security and rescue agencies are actively searching for two (2) other people who remain missing.
Furthermore, technical reports confirm that, so far, no contamination has been registered in the incident area.
The AMP, through its technical directorates, has already initiated the corresponding investigation to determine the causes of the event, in strict accordance with the provisions of the Code for the Investigation of Marine Casualties and Incidents of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
The institution reiterates its commitment to safeguarding human life at sea and will continue to update information as search efforts and investigations progress.
