Iran's Expanding Hormuz Control Deepens Crisis for 20,000 Stranded Seafarers
More than 20,000 sailors are stuck on around 2,000 vessels in the Persian Gulf, many unable to leave ship and lacking adequate food and fresh water. Iran's publication of a new map asserting control over the Strait of Hormuz risks extending the ordeal for these mariners trapped in a war zone. The International Transport Workers' Federation reports cases of pay delays, refusals to repatriate sailors, and lack of provisions, with over 2,000 seafarers seeking help since the conflict began on February 28.
