The Port of Algeciras welcomed a delegation from the Chilean Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications (MTT), a visit organized by the Foundation for the Internationalization of Public Administrations (FIAP) within the framework of the Euroclima initiative.
During the meeting, which is part of the Memorandum of Understanding between the MTT and Puertos del Estado signed at the end of 2025, the group learned about the Spanish terminal's experience in efficiency, digitalization, decarbonization, and energy transition, under the umbrella of the Green Strategy and the Green Energy Hub.
Chile is immersed in improving its logistics and infrastructure system to continue boosting foreign trade with the best standards in terms of efficiency, competitiveness, and decarbonization.
The meeting also served to address the Digital Interoperability Project between the Central American Digital Trade Platform (PDCC) and the Port Community System (PCS) of the Port of Algeciras, as part of the Global Gateway Strategy, promoted by the APBA together with the European Union and the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (Sieca).
This initiative allows for advance inspections, guarantees an agile, secure, and intelligent documentary flow, and offers exporters and operators physical and documentary traceability of goods from port to port.
As the President of the APBA, Gerardo Landaluce, commented, "we work on concrete projects that also represent a benefit and added value for our clients."
Algeciras maintains a close commercial relationship with Chilean ports, and thus in November 2022, together with the Port Community, the APBA carried out a Commercial Mission to the South American country.
Currently, the ports of Algeciras and Valparaíso are connected via a 28-day transit time with vessels crossing the Panama Canal. In 2026 (with accumulated data until April), exports of Chilean perishables through the Port of Algeciras are growing by 25%.
